What are swimming pool enclosures?

We all know that living in Britain has many perks, unfortunately, the Great British weather isn’t one of them. British weather isn’t known worldwide for being terrible for nothing. Currently, it’s July and about 17°C outside, with only a hint of sunshine – not what I would call peak summer!

Apart from giving the British public something to bond over i.e. complaining about the weather, it’s not fantastic swimming pool weather. Personally, I’ve lost design work simply because the weather that month was so bad that the client didn’t see the point in investing several tens of thousands of pounds in something that they were never going to use due to the weather.

Whilst we can’t fix the British weather – unfortunately, I think we are stuck with that – we do have a solution that can eliminate its effects on the swimming season: a swimming pool enclosure.

What is a swimming pool enclosure?

A swimming pool enclosure is a rigid, modular structure that is designed to protect and cover the pool and surrounding area. Most enclosures are telescopic and are made from multi-panel structures, with each panel being around 2m in length.

Enclosures are fixed to the pool surround and are often installed on rails, this allows the panels to slide over each other, retracting or extending as required. This design enables the enclosure to cover and uncover the pool as needed, providing flexibility in terms of usage and climate control.

The panels are manufacturer from either glass, polycarbonate, or another weather resistant plastics, which is then sealed within a power-coated aluminium frame.

Pool enclosures are available in a variety of profiles; however, these are usually grouped into four different styles: low-level, medium-level, high-level, and wall-mounted. There are also a wide variety of design options that make a pool enclosure as unique as the person purchasing one.

What are the benefits of a swimming pool enclosure?

Extended Swimming Season

One of the main advantages of using a swimming pool enclosure in the UK is the extended swimming season. The enclosure will protect you from the element, like wind, rain and debris, so you and your family can enjoy the pool and the surrounding areas, for most of the year, even if the weather is outright terrible.

Heat Retention

Another benefit of a pool enclosure is their thermal insulation qualities. By enclosing the pool, the temperature of the water can be maintained more efficiently. The enclosure acts as a barrier against heat loss, thus reducing the need for heating the pool water extensively during colder months. This can lead to significant energy savings over time.

Reduced Maintenance

When the pool is covered, debris such as leaves, dirt, and insects are kept out, reducing the need for pool maintenance and easing the pressure on the filtration systems and sanitation chemicals.

Plus, not needing to fish out all those pesky leaves can’t never be a bad thing.

Increased Safety

Enclosures also provide an addition level of safety, which is vital for families with small children or pets. They often come with locking mechanisms on the doors and panels, enhancing safety by preventing unauthorised and restricting unsupervised access.

Privacy

If you’re privacy conscious, then an enclosure is perfect for you. With frosted panel options, you can swim in total privacy and away from the prying eyes of any noisy neighbours.

Aesthetics

One of the main benefits of investing in a swimming pool enclosure is that they simply look fantastic and can really add a wonderful finishing touch to any swimming pool project.

Pool enclosures come in various design and sizes, offering customisation options to suit every pool shale and size. They can be adapted to blend seamlessly with the aesthetics of the surrounding environment, enhancing the overall look of the pool area.

Overall, a telescopic swimming pool enclosure offer versatility, efficiency, and enhanced usability of outdoor swimming pools throughout the year, making it a popular choice amounts pool owners looking to maximise their pool investment and enjoyment.
